Coleman Timers

I finally got together all my Coleman timers. I might have sime more? But this is all I found for not. Someone did “borrow” a broken timer but who is keeping track? 🙂

So of all my bad mouthing of Coleman timers…. I have 20 timers.  4 combs work, 1 bay work and 15 timers are broken.

In contrast my Dixmor timers I have.  I purchased broken led 3 timers which are still broken.  But I have only had 1 problem with a led 7…. the ir is broken.

I do with I tested a dixmor vac timer…. but I would pick them as the winner.  LOL  🙂

I am done dissecting these…. I will also revise my precious post/comments.  I believe they use hot glue.  Which is apparently a thing people do?  Also people claim freezing hot glue helps it separate?  Which it did not…. so it might be something else?  Also the leads and solder joints might just not be cleaned?  (“No clean” solder flux residue) Corroded leads look different…. but I am not sure how corroded leads look under hot glue?  The matter what…. every time I need a sensor I try all my extras.  Which never work.

I do know something…. Gin-San uses epoxy or some resin…. for some reason?  Probably just to be…….. well it does not make their timer last longer.  At least that is what I have seen and heard.  Plus by their price of the timer and lack of features on some…. it adds money to the bottom line.  In my opinion.  🙂  Like the GinSan GS-31 (Which I have 5-6 for sale if you want some! 🙂 ) why does it cost $400 new…. when you need another $100 timer?

  • 67WR20  Trimmer Resistors – Through Hole 3/8″ Squ 20 10%  DOC 3/8” Square Multiturn Cermet Trimming Potentiometer
  • LM234H (I believe?)  DOC TI LINK Temperature Sensor with Analog Current Source Output in TO-92    Update:  20151001  I am revising this to LM134H
  • Resistor…. 271 Ohms 2%  The last color is not really that important.  But the 3rd band might be Red?  I would need to check again.  🙂  Update:  20151001 I believe it is red, brown, brown.

Now I love Dixmor…. better then all other Car Wash companies combined. But their “Original” Sensor seems flawed?  I just happened to find 3-4 broken sensors today and I have been meaning to check them out.  Lets check out the pictures below.

So my hypothesis is…. In the “Original” design the temp sensor is exposed to the elements (The cap portion).  Moisture has to rust and corrode this part (mine has rust on it) and pretty much all the solder joints of the board (mine are all corroded it seems).  Even though the rest of the sensor is encapsulated with epoxy or something annoying?  I believe…. that the temperature sensor should be encapsulated also…. then maybe the sensor would be a better design?  As designed I believe this is terrible to be honest…. It “seems” like I am purchasing one every other year.  But I know that has to be an exaggeration!  LOL 🙂  Update:  20151001  I do have 2 washes and I am in the south.

Quiz…. Plus testing a function

One of my functions was not working and I wanted to see if the wire to the equipment room worked.

If your good you can tell for sure what timer I am NOT using.  🙂  Hint I wouldn’t use an IDX timer.  Another hint…. It is not a trick…. It is not the vendor that produces both setups.

Broken Air Compressor?

I finally decided to figure out what was wrong with my air compressor pump.  The wheel would just spin freely and not do anything else.  When I removed the top the pistons? wouldn’t move when I pushed on them.  I would guess that is not good!  It was also dry and gummy.  But who knows what it is suppose to look like?

I removed the wheel thing (technical term) I guess this piece is fine?  But I believe I spotted the problem.

Looks like something broke in the compressor pump?  🙂  Looks like maybe the pistons seized up and the wheel thing ripped all the crap apart!  But it looks like I have all the pieces and I can easily fix this with some glue!

I forgot to tell you the way to get this pump apart is to take all the screws out them hit it with a rubber mallet.  At least it worked for me.  The 2nd picture looks like the piston actually broke/cracked then the whole pump blew up?  Maybe?

But I really can’t decide if the pump just didn’t have enough oil?  Maybe that caused all the problem?  I checked with the dip stick and it didn’t register, that is bad.  So the bottom line is I figured out what the problem was with my Dad’s broken air compressor and with a little glue I will be able to get this old green SpeedAire back as good as new!

Do you know when you get the “Unexpected Coin Drop” error randomly that the Hamilton techs tell you to unplug the wire harness from the coin dispenser and plug it back in a couple times?

I also called Randy Nix who is a Hamilton rep and he told me that there was crap on the counter switch and that was the problem.

Guess which one was correct?  You know I really like Hamilton changers and I for some reason really want to like this acw-5.  But it is a true POS.  (and I don’t mean “Point of Sale”)……  I also hate Hamilton support.  I really believe that at least 1/2 the time they give you the wrong advice.  I know for a fact that one jerk told me to purchase the main wire harness (cost me around $100 and takes about 1-2 hours to install) then Heidi another tech said there was no way that was the problem.  Oh and if you have a problem she is the person to talk to.

I Want My Case Quarter Back!

Greg taught me this foreign phrase, I am not sure of the origin.  The phrase “case quarter” apparently is referring to a actual quarter.  So if someone says “Can I get a case quarter?” that translates to:  “Hey I have two dimes and a nickel and a need a quarter!  Can you help me out?”  Oh and here is a Pro Tip for anyone that uses this “case quarter” phrase:  if you keep repeating it the other person isn’t all of a sudden going to understand what it means!

I don’t recall installing the wire harness like this……. maybe I did?  What was this person thinking?  If I just get this wire harness out I can…… wait a minute the person wasn’t thinking.  My bad!
