I used some SharkBite fittings to fix my 1″ copper water lines. I used a coupler and this neat slip fitting. This slip fitting allows for a 2″ gap to be in the pipe and you just slide the fitting over the gap.
I tried to turn the water back on today and discovered that I had 2 more breaks in my copper pipes. If you notice in the second picture one of the breaks is located behind the boiler (of course)! The third picture shows that I still have a small ice problem!
Apparently the thermostat for the heater does not work correctly. I had to fiddle with it and I got it to cut on. This caused some of my freezing problem in the equipment room.
Well, I do not know how to sweat copper so I bought this fancy GatorBite cap (292792) that you just push on. Anyone can be a plumber now! They are also removable… try that with a copper fitting. If you note in the second picture, the pipe is solid ice. Not good!
Nothing better than the Police calling you. Well actually this time it was a good thing. One of my water lines fell apart and water was just flowing out the front of the building. Not cool. Then I could not find the water main in the front of the building.
