Make your Fortune Washing Cars – A book? Car Wash people can read? JK :)

Interesting name of this guys book:  Make your Fortune Washing Cars  Plus only 40 years in the business?  I’m not even impressed!  No parents or grand parents helping with knowledge?  Another thing I’m not impressed about is making it in the car wash industry 40 years ago.

Actually the people that are going to do good now are all the people purchasing these foreclosures!  Any advice on building new is pretty dated information.  But click on the link above and look at the cover of the book.  🙂

Plus how is it a good “investment” to build new when there is a new wash struggling or the bank owns one next door?  Plus so what if you have cash?  It’s still a stupid investment.  Does anyone ever stop and think that a sales person “might” make money off you!  🙂  Why do you think they call you so much and they are “trying” to be your best friend…. until they get all there money?

If I write a book it needs to cost less then his… then I will name it “SO…… YOUR STUCK WITH A CAR WASH….. oh and there’s 100 down the street!  :)”

New Product for Lowes?

IMG_5042.JPGIMG_5044.JPGIMG_5045.JPGIMG_5046.JPG

Look what Lowes is selling now!  96″ fluorescent lights with the crappy T12 connections I thought you could only purchase at Grainger.  But be sure to check all the bulbs… I purchased a whole bunch and got different kinds!

Why I HATE ebay.com?

IMG_5074.jpgIMG_5069.jpgIMG_5107.jpgIMG_5087.jpg

Why is ebay crappy?  I find crap at my house to sell then I purchase crap from ebay.  It is a vicious cycle.  I have always wanted a Laser Disk player and guess what I purchased the other day?  I guess I am having buyers remorse?  I purchased a Pioneer CLD-M301 Laser Disk player which also plays cds and it came with a couple laser disk movies.  This Pioneer is awesome: it weighs 100 pounds and is quite large.  Now the laser disk movies are awesome also: it takes 3 sides of a laser disk for one movie (The Blues Brothers).  Also the disks are shiny and are as big as my head.

While searching the web for a review on my fly new player I found this article from cnnmoney.com  from August 1, 1992.  The title is very long but this is part of it: “What to Buy in the ’90s. Should you wait for high-definition TV?”  I say NO!  This player plugs into my HDTV!  (It is just not HD.)  The player apparently retailed for $650 in 1992 and you can purchase it for $30 in 2008.  Now who is the sucker?  Wait…….

I also spotted this player for sale.  Now this guy is from Canada so….. (insert joke).  But he is trying to sell a CLD-M301 (like mine) for $125.  That seems like a lot of money and this guy listed it in September 3, 2007 and was just renewed again in June 8, 2008 and his listing expires on July 8, 2008.   I wonder if he will sell it before July?  When would a normal person decide “I am NEVER going to sell this.  Only a moron would purchase it!”?

These are the chemicals I purchased from the Erie Brush people.  His son sells chemicals and the company is Simply Solutions Corporation Crestwood, IL.  I purchased the APPEAL Blue Berry Clearcoat and the BERRY NICE Foaming Detergent.  I do not think he has a web site though.  I hope it works well.

Greg sold me a ton of his carwash stuff in his basement today.  But I finally purchased his PUR-CLEAN RO system, with a charcoal filter and a magic water softener thing (last picture) with included directions.

Also included a chemical sprayer, empty drums, and some chemical (Qual Chem – Q Enhance Low, Q No – Touch Low, and Q Enhance High).

Lastly a truck full of stuff.  I can not list all the stuff but it is really great stuff.  Now, like Greg said, I need to open a car wash in my basement (which I actually could open a 4 bay if I had the electrical and a working air compressor).  Greg sold me all this stuff for $280 (I think?), which is really great.  Thanks Greg!

Ebay.com crap, I mean good stuff

I purchased these from toolsandmorellc (ebay name) and she owns a store close by called “Tools & More” in Alabaster. I have been getting my cones stolen alot recently so I purchased some “Temporarily Closed” tape. At least it will be cheaper when they break or steal it.

I purchased more stuff from Greg today

IMG_0457.JPG

Well, I purchased some garbage can lids from Greg’s brother technically.  Greg gave them to his brother and I actually purchased them from Greg.  But they used to be my Dad’s garbage can lids from his Valleydale car wash, which Greg replaced with the tepee type lids.  Right?  Well, I have them now, which is good.  Thanks Greg and Greg’s brother!

Are SDS drill bits the best idea ever?

IMG_0410.JPGIMG_0413.JPGIMG_0412.JPGIMG_0418.JPGIMG_0404.JPG

Greg told me to purchase a SDS drill and I purchased this DeWalt D25313K Heavy-Duty 1 inch SDS L-Shape 3 Mode Hammer.  I love these SDS drill bits and I guess the drill and my cheap Harbor Freight drill bits ($10 a piece, 42639, 42651 Drill Master masonry bits) are good.  Why does every drill bit not use this system.  The second picture shows the SDS bit layout, it consists of a locking mechanism.  The third picture shows the chuck, which you just jam the drill bit in and it clicks in place.  The fourth picture shows how you remove the bit by just pulling the chuck back.  This system is just for masonry bits I guess, but why?

I did actually use the drill and I mounted and reinforced some stuff.  The last picture is all the crap I needed to install a couple screws.
